.jpg) After
eight years of testing and sorting Comer C50 and C51 engines we have
come up with a formula for finding the best motors and preparing
them for race day. The methods used are legal for IKF, Stars, WKA
and most other groups. It is a combination of several small details
and searching for the motors with the best potential. No two motors
are the same. Two motors can be only ten serial numbers apart yet .3
horsepower different.
We
offer five levels of motors currently in both C50/C51 and
K80. The
first level is a standard C50 prepared to run fast. It could be
newer or only slightly used. The second is an engine that has shown
good signs in testing or at the track and is reformatted to run
fast. The last is an engine that either has won regionally or
nationally or has the head casting traits that make it a winner. The
rest are sorted and ranked by performance into the levels shown
below. As you go up in investment it is not a linear power curve,
you are simply getting a few more tenths on the track, a few hundred
more rpm and a few tenths more horsepower or a better dyno curve for
racing.
Our
motors are not highly machined motors. They are an investment
because they are hard to find and time consuming to test, but
because they are gifted and set up correctly you are passing people
on the track legally. There is much satisfaction in a win where you
pass everyone and get checked thoroughly in tech. When you are
declared the winner in tech and everyone walks away scratching their
heads that's very satisfying because you and your driver did it
within the rules.
Some
people have asked for a guarantee that they will pass tech. This is
impossible to do for several reasons. First we can't guarantee that
someone else doesn't modify the engine after it leaves here. We once
had a customer take one of our engines and lap other engines we
produced. That same customer was later DQ'd for head work. It is
hard to see how one of our engines could lap other engines we
produced. The other reason is that parts break and can cause a DQ.
Tech directors can also make mistakes. The best thing to do is to
ask for your engine or component to be held in tech if you receive a
DQ. Ask for it to be sent up the ladder of IKF or WKA. Often local
tech directors can read a discoloration in a port as port work when
they just haven't seen enough of them to know. There are very few
things as painful as receiving a DQ in a big race. We do everything
on our end to make sure it doesn't happen. In the end it will always
be your responsibility to assure that your engine passes tech. The
best way to do this is to ask a tech director to look at your engine
prior to a race - most are willing to do this happily and they are
not very busy before racing begins.

Tornado
Kid Kart Engines Lead R7 and R11 of IKF
Kid Kart racing out West
is the toughest in the world. Last year we won the regional title
with Braden Johnson flying in from Illinois for each race. We put
three other drivers on the final podium too. This year with many
fewer drivers we are still successful in holding down the Region 11
title with Chloe St. George in a perfect season of all wins. Cruz
Fiore hold the coveted Region 7 points lead after winning the
opening race and finishing on the podium in all the other races.
The
Mustang - $1099

These are the brand new
Comer C51 cc engines with a standard rebuild. Since these are new
engines turnaround time is only a couple weeks and many times we
have them in stock and ready to ship. Much improved over
the last two years engines, we add to the engine by properly
preparing the engine for racing.
The
Falcon

This is
our entry level race motor. Great for club racing and even some
regional races. It is a used old style C50 motor that has been gone
through and set up for high end power. This motor will outperform
all legal newer c51 motors and run competitively with the best old
motors. If you race under the new C51 only rules please specify you
want a C51.
The Hornet
If
you have been stung too many times by the competition and would like
to fly to the front of the pack the Hornet may be your engine. It is
an older used motor that has either shown promise at the track or
performed well in testing. It has all the hard to find old
components that really make this motor perform well at the club and
regional level. The motor is taken apart and checked, then rebuilt
with the best existing parts and configured to exacting
specifications.
The
Stealth
This
engine will sneak up on the competition and drive by before they
knew what hit them. These motors are hard to find select head
castings that simply perform superior to other motors. Hand selected
and carefully reconfigured to perform at the top of the regional
races and national events. We have a few motors that have already
won a national race or regional title and are proven to produce
power in the key rpm bandwidths to allow for passing with equally
talented drivers. Stealth engines can take up to 22 weeks or longer
to locate and build. It is like finding a needle in a haystack. If
you place an order for one you can't change your mind or get your
money back. We will deliver the engine when ready. If you race under
the new C51 only rules please specify you want a C51.
The
Super Stealth
Our highest level engine
and the most time consuming to produce. The building and dyno
process can take several days spread over a few weeks. Often times
the process can push a part to it's limits and we have to replace
the part and rebuild. This is not for everyone as it is a large
investment in materials and time. It is the pinnacle of the C50
engine development business and the amount of R&D that is included
in each engine is significant. The engine is broken in on a special
purpose $10,000 5" small 2 cycle water brake dyno that is computer
controlled and monitored. The air in the dyno room is monitored and
horsepower ratings are adjusted by the climate computer. Other dynos
may be used to test different components as well as other testing of
components. Some people think this level of detail is too much,
others want attention to details by a specialist or engineer with
knowledge of the engines.
The A
10 Warthog Dirt Racing Motor
Built to get down in the dirt and shoot up the
competition these motors are designed for open competition dirt
racing primarily on the East coast. With extensive dyno testing we
can give you an unbelievable power plant. $1475.
The
B2
Built
to run overseas where they have no rules other than head volume. This engine is built from parts we receive
from all over the US that have been cut or changed and are not legal
in the United States but can be used to run the unlimited classes in
other countries like Mexico and South America.

Super
Stealth - $2585 - These
are the rare serial numbers that are hard to find but then we focus
extra attention on all the details. It takes a while so the sooner
you order the better. C51 Super Stealths are usually 1 to 6 months
delivery time depending on the order and seasonal backlog. The dyno
time is include in the investment total. These engines are built,
run in, tested and then rebuilt again until they reach the top level
of performance. Heat and cryo treating of these engine components
add about three weeks to the process, each process could ruin the
part or engine and then we'll have to start over again. When done
you'll have a top notch engine.
Dyno
Room Engineering - If you want to find
the specific best set up for your driver, engine and chassis
combination invest in Dyno room time. We charge $175 an hour for
engineering time and $125 an hour for break in time. We average that
out to a daily rate of $900. We've had many clients find good power
by giving us the investment of a second engine to put into dyno
testing of new ideas. We are creative thinkers and trained engineers
not just machinist or karting enthusiasts.
One day of dyno room testing specific
to your engine or series. We'll find the right combination and
power!

On Track
Support - I get asked to come help people at the track. I
rarely if ever do it except for our factory drivers. It is $120 an
hour for my race weekend time. A minimum eight hours is required
plus expenses, flights, meals and hotel. I charge $30/hour for
travel time. All has to be paid two weeks in advance to schedule
time. I did this for one national champion and it secured his place
as national champion. Strategy, set up options, rebuilds, protests
and coaching are all included. Hopefully the videos can get you to
the front and our track support is the last thing you'll need.
The B2
Grey $1775 - Built to basic standards for the international
market.
The B2
Red $2199 and up - Built for top racers facing tough
international competition. The price includes scientific treatments
of components and dynamometer testing time to tune for your region
and altitude.
The B2
Gold -$2475 - This is an engine with every advantage we can
give it. From cryo treating certain parts to heat treating others.
We build the engine to exact standards and dyno test it. We start
with the best head that we can find after viewing many looking for
the correct port height, size and shape. After viewing your rules we
then make the engine better. Alignment of the crank case halves and
the base so the engine can rev freely. Our focus is on creating
horsepower at the top end of the RPM range where it counts on a
fixed gear class. If you don't run a fixed gear we'll build it for
peak horsepower.

plus $8 for insurance. Overnight shipping is usually $90 for UPS and
$55 for US Mail (not guaranteed).
Race engines
do not have warranties. Once you place the order and pay for the
engine it is your engine and can't be canceled or returned for a
refund. Well meaning people can and do forget to put oil in gas,
drop engines or run them with the wrong plugs. Even if the engine
has a problem after the first day it can't be returned because there
is no guarantee or warranty on race engines. No engine can be
guaranteed to pass tech, because they can break, be modified once
they leave our shop or be read incorrectly by a tech director - we
build them to technical standards. This is standard policy in the
motorsports industry. We know the race engines are in good shape
when they leave here. The old style C50 engines can take a while to
find and build. We ship when they are done - once ordered you can't
get a refund. If you refuse shipment we'll hold the engine or
chassis 3 weeks, if you don't take shipment it will be donated to a
charitable organization that helps young racers get a start. Please
make sure you are prepared to accept these conditions before you
purchase. For many individuals this is their first motor sports
performance purchase.
